Balaram Yojana has been started by the Odisha government to empower the farmers of the state. Through which a loan of Rs 1,040 crore will be given by the Odisha Government to about seven lakh landless farmers facing economic difficulties due to the corona virus epidemic. For that this year around 70,000 clusters will get agricultural loans. Out of which 05 landless farmers will be included in each group. To whom a maximum loan of Rs 1.60 lakh will be given by the government. The loan received under the scheme to the beneficiaries will be directly transferred to their bank account. Eligible beneficiaries will be able to get the benefit of the scheme by applying online.

Balram Yojana has been launched by Odisha government to give economic benefits to the landless farmers who are currently unemployed due to coronavirus episode. In the next two years, about seven lakh landless farmers will get benefits under the scheme. Chief Secretary Asit Kumar Tripathi has directed the officers to give agricultural loans to the landless farmers through joint liability meetings. For which the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) will make arrangements at the regional level to implement the scheme at the state level. Horticulture Secretary Saurabh Garg said that the landless farmers would get credit through JLG which would be in the form of ‘social insurance’.

How will farmers get loans under Balaram Yojana

In the year, 70000 farmers will get loan from Odisha State Government under Odisha Balram Yojana. Under this scheme of Odisha state government, 5 landless farmers will be selected from each group. The government will provide a loan of up to ₹ 200000 to 5 landless farmers selected from each area. This is the first scheme for landless farmers. Behind which the Odisha State Government will spend about one lakh crore rupees.

This scheme will be operated by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, NABARD. This bank will act as the apex development bank for agriculture and rural development. Which will provide loan to the eligible beneficiaries.

Implementation Of The Scheme

• This scheme has been prepared with the joint effort of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

• About 70,000 congregations will receive farm advances. Each meeting will be attended by five landless cattle rearers, who will get maximum loan of Rs 1.60 lakh.
• The state government has focused on providing agricultural loans to seven lakh landless farmers in the next 02 years.
• Through this scheme, a credit flow of about Rs.1040 crore will be made to the actual field-level rural exercises.
