Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has started LABHA Yojana to improve the condition of the tribals of the state. The state government is setting up a Rs 25 crore tamarind processing plant at Rayagada to further benefit the tribals, which will utilize the tamarind minor forest produce procured through the LABHA scheme for value-addition. This will improve the condition of the beneficiaries and they will be motivated to take advantage of the scheme.

Objective of Odisha LABHA Scheme

The minor forest produce collected by a primary collector (tribal) TDCCOL is to be sold at the procurement centers at Minimum Support Price so as to motivate the eligible beneficiaries to avail the benefits of the scheme.

LABHA scheme will integrate the efforts of Mission Shakti with women SHGs. Out of which 99% primary collectors are tribals and most of them are women. In such a situation, these women will be linked to the scheme so that it can help in improving their economic condition.

Procurement centers will be managed by notified agencies

The procurement centers will be managed by SHGs/TDCCOLL assisted by any other notified agencies. Upon collection, the prescribed amount will be sent to the beneficiary’s bank account through DBT. Along with this, SHG/any other agency will also get commission (2%).

A tamarind processing plant worth Rs 25 crore will be set up for this scheme.

21 tribal languages ​​will also be included

The State Government has also approved the establishment of a Commission for the Preservation and Promotion of Tribal Languages ​​of Scheduled Tribes of Odisha. There are 21 tribal languages ​​in Odisha, which the Naveen Patnaik government wants to conserve, promote, develop, spread and protect the tribal languages ​​in Odisha through this commission.

Therefore this Commission will encourage multilingual education, document and preserve tribal languages, promote the use of those languages, protect linguistic rights among many enriching activities for the development of tribal languages.

All 21 tribal languages ​​recognized by the state have been included in the education system under the Multilingual Education (MLE) programme.
