The Government of Karnataka has started the Namma Clinics Yojana to take care of the health of the citizens of the state. This health service has been started especially for people living in poor, slum areas. Under this scheme, 438 Namma Clinics will be set up across Karnataka. Out of which 243 Namma clinics will be in Bengaluru. Each clinic will be manned by one doctor, one nurse, one lab technician and one Group D employee. This scheme will provide health facilities to the poor class people. By which the health related needs of the people will be met. There will be at least one Namma clinic in each ward of the city and it will function like a PHC.

Key Points of the Karnataka Namma Clinics Scheme

  • Namma Clinic will provide 12 types of health services which include post-natal and neonatal care, childhood and adolescent care, immunization services, care for common and minor ailments, diabetes, blood pressure management and oral diseases.
  • Each Namma Clinic will cater to a population of 10,000-20,000 people.
  • 100 Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in the state will be upgraded as Community Health Centers and 45 new PHCs will be set up in Kalyana Karnataka.
  • Health and Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar said the government has set up 7,000 health and wellness centers and it will supply medicines for diabetes, hypertension and tuberculosis at patients’ doorsteps from January.
  • 12 chemotherapy centers are working for the poor and 1,000 more Janaushadhi centers will be added to the existing 1,250 centres.
  • This scheme has been started on the lines of Mohalla Clinic scheme of Delhi.
